Many people ask What is a Groodle....?

Groodle or Goldendoodle

The Groodle or Goldendoodle is a "Hybrid" Breed that is a Poodle crossbred commonly referred to as a Designer Breed or Designer Dog and is breed from a Purebred Poodle with a Purebred Golden Retriever, and depending on what size poodle is used you can get varying sizes of Mini, Standard & Giant.

It is NOT recognised as a Specific Pure Breed of its own but rather a crossbreed, and cannot be registered as such. It is however now grown in its popularity due to its fabulous affectionate nature, gentle temperament and its fun loving personality that is a perfect fit for family's with small children.

The Groodle Designer Breed originated in North America and in the 1990's emerged as an alternate to the Labradoodle that was already growing in its popularity. They are gentle, affectionate, friendly, highly intelligent and have a low- NON Shedding, low dander coat. Their loving nature and desire to please proves them to make fantastic faithful, family companions, who are fabulous with children and extremely easy to train.

They are highly social dogs and happily get along with everyone both animal and human which makes them great mates to have throughout their lifetime with people often commenting that they look like they are smiling.

They thrive on regular contact with their family due to being highly social animals and should live as a family member, NOT live in a kennel or outside. If they are left alone for extended periods they can fret and suffer from separation anxiety which can lead to destructive behaviour and literally make them sick.

BEST ways to avoid this keep them with the family and if you cant then provide lots of play toys, treats to keep them busy and leave a TV/Radio on when you are away, This will help them feel less lonely. If you have to travel away for extended periods get in a Dog/House sitter or get a dog loving friend to mind them as they will NOT do well in a Kennel.

Groodles will fit into to both city and country life but definitely need some exercise space like a well fenced yard or a daily 1/2 hour walk/run to keep the smile on their dial.

They love to swim and be around water and get extremely excited about fetching a ball, toy or stick. Although they will bark at strangers in the first instance approaching their home, they are not known to have any aggressive traits and do need to be properly socialised to avoid being shy or fearful. They are NOT Guard dogs and should not be used in a watchdog role.

They are extremely easy to train and were originally breed as a working dog and are regularly used as service, sniffer, guide, disability & therapy dogs. Their low-NON shedding coats allow them to have an advantage over other dogs when working with people in these fields, especially those that suffer allergies.

Groodles are wonderful intelligent, family friendly dogs that love being a "MEMBER" of the family and they will give years of entertainment, smiles and love in return.

Common Issues Groodle Have

They do have large floppy ears that do need to be kept clean. This can be done with a simple wipe with ear solution and cotton wool. It is important NEVER to use "cotton buds" as these can damage the ear drum.

Groodles also require weekly to biweekly brushing to avoid knotting/ tangles and generally require a full body hair clip at least three times a year.

They also adore a fortnightly bath or shower with conditioner to help reduce the tangles, if you do like to keep their coats long. There is no set length just personal choice dependent on what playful activities they regularly do
